I think the SAMR theory of technology can help evaluate the use of technology in a classroom. There are various different reasons to implement different technologies into a classroom and using the SAMR theory can help dictate which technologies will benefit a student most. Not all students need a complete redefinition of technology and can simply succeed with a substitution like an infographic instead of just a poster. It can also help create modifications for students with IEP’s or learning disabilities that can help them stay in the general classroom. In class I discussed the use of Google Docs to take collaborative notes with multiple members of the class. This would allow students to take in-depth notes and even if they missed a concept or a lecture they would not be missing any material, students could also ask and answer questions in real time by commenting on the document and would benefit students who may not be able to take notes and must rely on the help of others. I think sketchnoting would be extremely beneficial for all ages. Primary age kids who are still learning to read and write would find the use to symbols, and doodles beneficial for a few reasons, first if they still are struggling to spell and are learning vocabulary they could use a picture instead of having to stop and refer to the teacher every time they get stuck. It is also great for their retention and will lead them to develop a deeper understanding of the concepts as well as develop their memorization skills. The use of sketchnoting will also help develop kids artistic skills, creativity, imagination and visual literacy.
