Chapter 3: All the Pretty Places

I have always said that I have been lucky enough to live in 2 of the most beautiful places in BC – I mean are you kidding me?!? my two homes are the Okanagan and Vancouver Island, I am never allowed to complain about anything ever again. I may never be able to own a house in either place but I will deal with that problem when I get there.

You would think that because I have always had an excess of beautiful views and access to bodies of water and nature that I would be accustomed to the beauty of the world but I think it had the opposite effect. I grew up with so much appreciation for the land and nature that surrounds us and I think Covid helped me realize just how much I value having easy access to nature and untouched wilderness. When everyone was in true lockdown I had 47 different hiking trails just in Penticton that I got to explore everyday and spent all of my time outside.

This is a QR code from AllTrails to the trail I hiked every single day. My house is the last one on a dead end road so the entrance to this trail was quite literally 3 feet from my driveway and has a beautiful view of Okanagan-Similkameen lake once you reach the top.

When I was applying to universities I knew that I needed to live in a place that had that easy availability to the outdoors and I picked UVic solely because I was so excited to explore Vancouver Island. While being here at UVic I have gotten to explore a bit on the weekends during school but I am living here this summer for the first time and I know I will get to see so many different places – So if you have any recommendations let me know!!
